Urban Hugh Baldwin, 85, of Gallipolis, passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at his residence.

He was born November 30, 1923 in Gallia County, son of the late Brisco H. and Dora Belle Williams Baldwin. Urban married Mary Ann Clagg on April 4, 1948 in Gallia County. He was a World War II Army Air Corps Veteran. Urban was the owner of BB and M Coal Company and retired from Crown City Mining where he was a heavy equipment operator and foreman. He enjoyed gardening and square dancing and was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, VFW, and the American Legion.

Surviving is his wife of 61 years, Mary Ann Baldwin of Gallipolis; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen Sue "Suzi" and Dick Patten of North Fort Myers, Florida; two grandchildren, Debra Patten of Alva, Florida and Rich (Debra) Patten Jr. of Houston, Texas; three great granddaughters, Anna Nicole of Wyoming, Nicole of Houston, Texas and Katelyn of Alva, Florida; one brother, James E. (Brenda) Baldwin of Leon, West Virginia, several sisters-in-law, Bette Baldwin, Midge Evans, Jay (Allen) Blair, Alice Clagg, Weltha Clagg and Bonnie Bonnette; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law.

Urban's homegoing celebration will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 6, 2009 at the Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Todd Bowers officiating. Burial will follow in St. Nick Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday, September 5, 2009 from 6-8 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Larry Baldwin, Jim Ward, Jerry Scott, Bob Wenner, Keith Brannen, and Roger Watson. Honorary pallbearers will be Raymond Trout and David Dennison.

There will be a flag presentation at the cemetery by volunteer's of area veterans lodges.
