Catharine Markley was born in Stark County, Ohio Aug 24, 1832 to George and Christina Markley. She was one of 8 children. She married Israel Young on Nov. 15, 1850. They had four children, one of which did not survive. Her husband Israel died in 1862 and she married dairy farmer Samuel Longenecker. Samuel had been married once before and had at least 8 children by Sophia Beckley. Beckley died in 1860 as did one of their children. Catharine and Samuel had 6 children, George, Ella, Ida, Ada, William and Etha. Ida passed away in 1880 at age 10. The family lived in Summitt county, Ohio until 1876 when they moved to Noble Co., Ind. where they again resumed diary farming. Catharine's father George Markely accompanied them. Samuel passed away in 1892 and Catharine went to live with her oldest son William on his farm at North Webster, Indiana. She passed away on May 3, 1904 and is buried beside her husband and her middle daughter Ida at Oak Park Cemetery in Ligonier, Ind.
