Mrs John Cowley
After a long illness Mrs. John Cowley died at her home in this city Tuesday morning. Mrs. Cowley had been a resident of Hood River for about eight years and was highly esteemed by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband, a daughter, Mrs. Frank Clark, a son, Will Mercer, of Hood River, and another daughter who lives in The Dalles.
The funeral will be held from the Methodist church this afternoon at 2 o'clock.

OBITUARY
Mrs. John Cowley
Nancy Jane Harding, the wife of John Cowley, was born at Quincy, Illinois, March 12, 1841, and died at her home in Hood River February 14, 1911. On October 28, 1860, she was married to Wm. Mercer, and four years later they moved to Wheatland county, Calif., living there until 1880, when the family moved to Sherman county, Ore. In 1890 Mr. Mercer died, leaving five children to the care of his widow. A few years later Mrs. Mercer moved to Hood River and in 1902 was married to John Cowley of this city.
Mrs. Cowley united with the Methodist Episcopal church at the age of 15, and from that time until her death was a most faithful and consistent member. She was well known in Hood River, and loved by all who knew her.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Cowley leaves to mourn her death three daughters and two sons - Mrs. Daisy Wilehart, of The Dalles, Mrs. Ethel Bralley, of Shaniko, Mrs. Nannie Clark and Wm. Mercer, of Hood River, and Harry Mercer, of Portland.
The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon from Asbury Methodist church, Rev. Frank Spaulding and Rev. E. McOmber officiating. Interment was at Idlewild.
