James B. Grenard was born in Montgomery county (sic), Indiana, May 1, 1836, and died at the home of his son, William A. at Nora, on June 11, 1919, being 83 years, 1 month and 10 days old.
On February 23, 1859, Mr. Grenard was married to Mary A. Gilkey who died July 2, 1887. Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Grenard, two of whom preceded him in death. The four surviving children are: Mrs. Ellen Roy of Winterset, Iowa; Geo. W. Grenard of La Junta, Colo.; Mrs. Lola Larimore of Yampa, Colo.; and William A. Grenard of Nora.
In the fall of 1866 Mr. Grenard moved from the place of his birth to Illinois and in the spring of 1874 he moved to Madison county (sic), Iowa. In the fall of 1884 he moved to Nebraska, where he has since made his home, except for a while that he lived with his daughter in Colorado.
When a young man Mr. Grenard joined the Baptist church and in 1895 he united with the Church of Christ at Ruskin, of which he remained a faithful member until his death. Although he was deprived of his hearing for many years, and badly afflicted during the last years of his life, he was a patient sufferer and is now at rest and free from pain.
Funeral services were conducted at the Christian church in Nora on Saturday afternoon, June 14, by B. Frank Lowery of Davenport and the body was laid to rest in the Nora cemetery (sic).
