Rumors were Martha Jane Slack was raped and allegedly her father paid John Hill to marry her as she was actually 37 and he was 22 if they got married in 1886. I can not locate a marriage record for them although the 1900 census claimed they were married for 14 years. Ethel was not John's child and she was Jane's only child. Jane had said she was not going to allow Ethel to get married and have children (because she was biracial).
Several years ago I corresponded with a lady who said that Ethel Hill married and had children. She had photos of her and said she was beautiful. She had given me the name of the husband and the children. My computer crashed and I lost everything. I don't remember the lady's name or any of the other names. Numerous people on Ancestry claim she died in 1912 after marrying W.E. Burger. I can not find an actual death date or burial place. If anyone knows, please contact me.
