Nellie Marie Wessel, 65, Frankfort, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at a Frankfort care center.

Mrs. Wessel was a certified nurses assistant and a cook at care homes in Iowa and Nebraska, and more recently in Marysville and Frankfort.

She was born April 15, 1937, in Nemaha County, the daughter of Roy E. Smith and Harriett Mooney. She graduated from Vermillion High School in 1955.

Mrs. Wessel was a member of the Annunciation Catholic Church in Frankfort and the Altar Society at the church. She was also a former Girl Scout leader.

She married Norbert Wessel. He survives.

Other survivors include a son, Norbert Wessel Jr., Burr, Neb.; four daughters, Pamela Schmid, Tecumseh, Neb., Patricia Westendorf, Lincoln, Neb., Nellie Jean Wessel, Beatrice, Neb., and Michelle Greenlee, Union, Miss.; a sister, Catherine Long, Centralia, Neb.; and 13 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four sons, Jackie, Eldon and Leonard in 1964, and Benedict in 1996.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Annunciation Catholic Church in Frankfort. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery in Steinauer, Neb.
