Jonathan W. Teter
DOWNS – Jonathan Wesley Teter died at his home in Downs at 9:25 p.m. Wednesday. He had been in failing health for the last six months and bedfast for two weeks with a complication of diseases.
Mr. Teter was a son of Benjamin and Caroline Teter, born March 10, 1857, near the Old Spring schoolhouse west of Downs. Most of his life was spent in farming near Downs and in later years he owned a general store and meat market here.
On Nov. 19, 1883 he married Jeanetta Wilfong. She died in 1931. They had nine children, three of whom survive: Mrs. Homer Downs of Pana, Mrs. Charles Phillips of Downs and John W. Teter of Bloomington. There are seven grandchildren and three brothers: H. F. of Wilmington, D. G. of Nokomis and William of Elgin, Ore.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Methodist Episcopal church in Downs with burial in Hopewell cemetery.
