Born in Rangeley, Maine, Lena was the daughter of George & Minnie Toothaker Pillsbury. She was educated in the Rangeley schools and attended Farmington State Normal School. She was married in Rangeley in 1908 to Leon Hoar. they resided in Rangeley until Mr. Hoar's death in 1916. For many years she had taught in elementary schools in Rangeley, Strong, Kingfield and Phillips. She spent the last eleven years of her life employed as a practical nurse in Farmington. She died in Farmington Falls at the home of her son W. Damon Hoar.
