Herbert L. G. "Pat" Lewallen 90, of Salem, left this world on September 12, 2009 at 7:57 p.m. due to cancer. He was born on March 17, Saint Patrick's Day, in Purves (near Dublin), Texas to Frances and Glen Lewallen, earning him the nickname of "Pat." He was raised in Lubbock and at the age of 17 he joined the Texas National Guard to serve in World War II. He was stationed in Germany and France where he fought for our country. After he returned to Texas, he married Beatrice Thomas. After many unique careers and 19 years of marriage, he moved to Salem in 1974 where he met and married Nada O. (Rickard) Jackson. Together they enjoyed 33 years of marriage until she passed on March 9, 2009. His interests included hunting, fishing and casino gambling. For fun he used to play Kismet, Tripoli and Pinochle. He is survived by two brothers, James P. Way and D.R. Way; sons, Glen and Robert; daughters, Debbie; Stepsons Robert and Gary Fleming; Stepdaughters Linda ______, Shirley ______, Rosalie Hall, Barbara Durig and Debra Jucutan; 35 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson; along with many nieces and nephews that will love and miss him. A graveside service was at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 18, 2009 at City View Cemetery. We will love and miss you Dad-Grandpa Pat. You were the tallest, handsomest, aunryest, "fixen' to do" goin' out "yonder" Texan you'd ever wanna meet.
