Harmon Price Alderman, apprentice seaman, U.S.. Navy, enlisted at Jacksonville, Fla., on 4th September, 1928. From there he was sent to the Naval Training Station, Hampton Roads, Va., for a short course in recruit training. This training covers a period of eight weeks during which time the recruits are given instruction in infantry and artillery drill, rowing and signaling, and swimming and seamanship. They are also given lectures on Naval life and etiquette.
During his training period Alderman showed himself so willing and prompt in obedience as well as clean and neat in person and habits, as to be selected “Honor Man” of his platoon. This is the highest honor awarded a recruit while in training.
Before entering service Alderman worked as manager of Ford parts department in a garage, but the advantages offered by the Navy caused him to decide to enlist, and up to this time he has had no reason to change his opinion regarding the wisdom of this move. Alderman has expressed a desire to be transferred to sea and this transfer will be made shortly. The fine start he has made gives promise of rapid advancement in whatever rating he decides to take up.
Alderman was born hear Keystone Heights, Fla., October 8, 1907, and has completed his High School education. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. H.G. Alderman, well-known residents of Melrose, Fla.

Chief Radioman Harmon Price Alderman.served on the USS Houston (CA-30) Cruiser, He survived the Sinking of the Ship and he became a POW.
He died as a POW (disease) at Japan, Hakodate Prison Camp (Main-Camp) Bibai-Machi, on Nov. 26, 1942.
