He married Maria E. Fox at Taunton in 1859. In 1861, he enlisted in Taunton with the 7th Mass. Regiment. In July 1862 he developed debility and typhoid fever and was sent to David's Island, NY hospital to recover. From there he was sent home (to Somerset) to recover but he only lived one day after getting there, dying at Somerset on Sep 27, 1862.
