Enlisted June 13, 1861 as 1st Lieutenant. Commissioned and mustered July 30, 1861 into company A, 1st IA cavalry. Promoted Captain, December 11, 1861; Major (2nd Battalion), August 21, 1863; Lieutenant Colonel, September 25, 1864 and Brevet Brigadier General, March 13, 1865 for 'meritorious services' during the war. Mustered out February 15, 1866 in Austin, TX. Post-war, he was a merchant and farmer.
