Laura was my husband's great grandmother. Ancestors have passed down information that Laura's father was James Hodges who was the son of Newton Hodges. Laura's parents were never married to each other. My mother-in-law, Mellie Reyer Broadway, said that James wanted to marry Rachel but her father would not allow it. This was told to her by her father who was Laura's son.
