William G. Paulsen, 75, of Oak Harbor, Ohio, died Thursday, June 25, 2009 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg, Ohio. He was born in Oak Harbor on July 22, 1933, a son of Rollie & Luella (Rose) Paulsen. An active member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Bill served several terms on the parish council and was chairman of the maintenance committee for many years. He was also a member of the Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus. Bill was the Chief of Police for the Village of Oak Harbor for 21 years, retiring in 1992. He had served as a police officer for the village for=2 035 years. After his retirement, Bill was employed by the Ottawa County Municipal Court as a bailiff and probation officer for 8 years, retiring in 2000. He was the founder of the Ottawa County Chief's Association, was a member of the Ohio and National Associations of Chiefs of Police. Bill was a former member of the Oak Harbor Rotary Club and the Oak Harbor Fire Department. After his retirement, he greatly enjoyed woodworking and making toy trucks. Bill also enjoyed collecting tools, bird watching and travelling, especially to Maine. On November 22, 1952, he married the former Eleanore Lindeman, and she survives. Also surviving are his children, Barbara Rhodes, Teresa (John) Blodgett, Mary Paulsen, and Robert (Crystal) Paulsen, all of Oak Harbor; brother, Louis (Betty) Paulsen, Oak Harbor; sister, Judy (Sonny) Short, Sandusky, Ohio; grandchildren, Emily, Elliott, and Ian Blodgett; Jonathan, Gregory, and Catherine Foust; Robert Rhodes, and Heather, Hillary, and Jeremiah Paulsen; and sisters-in-law, Mary Paulsen, Oak Harbor, and JoAnn Paulsen, Millville, Ohio. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Joan Foust; and brothers, Arthur Paulsen and Ronald Paulsen.
Friends are invited to call from 2-8 P.M. Monday at Crosser Funeral Home, Oak Harbor, where the family will be present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. A Parish Wake Service will be held at 8 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Oak Harbor, with the Rev. David L. Ritc hie officiating. Interment will follow at Salem Township Union Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Renovation Fund of St. Boniface Church or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
