Mrs. Josepha A. Wichman
Seneca-Mrs. Josepha A. "Josie" Wichman, 76, Seneca, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, at a Kansas City, Kan., nursing home. She had a brain tumor and had been ill since Nov. 27.
Mrs. Wichman was a cook at the Friendly Diner at Seneca several years.
She was born April 11, 1908, at Oldenburg, Germany, the daughter of Frank and Wilhemeina Schaard Mohiman. She moved to the United States with her parents when she was 3 years old and lived at Seneca, then in the St. Benedict community. she attended Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School at Seneca and St. Mary's Catholic School at St. Benedict.
Mrs. Wichman was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church at Seneca and St. Ann's Altar Society at the church.
She was married to Fred C. "Fritz" Wichman May 27, 1930, at St. Benedict. They lived and farmed northeast of Seneca until 1960, then managed the Nemaha County Convalescent Home until 1970. they then moved to a farm south of Baileyville. They moved into Seneca in August 1977. He died July 24, 1978.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Kathleen Huerter, Kansas City, Kan.; four sons, Francis Wichman, Shawnee, Regis Wichman, Nebraska City, Neb., Jerry Wichman, Joplin Mo., and Larry Wichman, Larksburg, Colo.; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Enneking and Mrs. Sue Groff, both of Seneca; a brother, Joseph B. Mohiman, Seneca; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. Burial will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery at Seneca. Rosaries will be recited at 8 p.m. today and at 3 and 8 p.m. Friday at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Memorial contributions may be made to Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church or Nemaha Valley Community Hospital, both in Seneca.
