Cumbee Passed Away Suddenly.
Was Active in the Business and Political Affairs of the County

The death of A. Z. Cumbee, age 48 years, was a severe shock to residents of this county last Sunday night. He died following an illness of about one hour from acute indigestion with complications. He died about 7:30 o'clock, and death came almost without warning.

The deceased was a prominent farmer, merchant and business man of Beat Six, Fredonia community, and was otherwise identified with the various interests of the county, having only recently received a primary nomination for county commissioner, a position he at one previous occasion had held.

Funeral service was held from the home at Fredonia at 10:30 o'clock Tuesday morning, with Revs. Treadaway, pastor of the Fredonia Methodist Church; R. C. Wilson, a former pastor and T. L. McDonald, presiding elder of the Roanoke district, being the officiating ministers. Robinson & Cutler, local undertakers, were in charge of arrangements.

Surviving the deceased a widow, Mrs. Alline Cumbee; two sons, A. Z. Cumbee, Jr., and Jack Cumbee; two daughters, Misses Frances and Annie Cumbee, all of Fredonia; two brothers, Ed Cumbee, West Point, and John Cumbee, of Birmingham; one sister, Mrs. Lula Johnson, of Birmingham, and a wide circle of friends and close relatives.

Pall bearers were Rube, John and Duke Cumbee, Al Grady, Cumbee Grady and Charles Schuessler.

Flower girls were Misses Myrtis Webb, Sarah Bonner, Harriett Gilliland, Carrie Fannie Cumbee, Sue Seroyer, Ida Jones, Addie Cumbee, Frances Danielly, Margaret Simpson and Julia Coley.

Interment was in the Fredonia cemetery.
