Albert J. "Jake" Friday, 82, 487 Baughman Hollow Road, Snyder Twp., Tyrone, died Fri., 9/11/2009 at home. He was born in Northwood to David Porter & Olive Mae (Walker) Friday. He married Mary Baughman Sept. 1, 1950, at the E.U.B. Parsonage. Survived by wife; 4 children: David (Carol) of Belleville, Chris (Michael) Gurekovich of Baughman Hollow Road, Tyrone, Andrew (Catherine) of Springfield, IL, and Barry (Valerie) of Ocean Springs, MS; 4 grandchildren: Lisa (Shawn) Caldwell of Milroy, Kim (J.R.) Brinkman of Tipton and John Friday and Aaron Gurekovich, both of Baughman Hollow Road; 6 great-grandchildren; and sister, Emma Friday, a guest at Olivia Village. Albert was a 1944 graduate of Tyrone High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran with service in WWII on Okinawa. He retired in 1989 from Westvaco after 41 years of service. Mr. Friday was a member of Anderson Denny VFW Post 4559 and had been a member of Howard Gardner American Legion Post 281. He was a former Snyder Twp. supervisor and a former member of the board of directors of the Tyrone Area School District. He was very active as a baseball coach in minor league, teener league, Little League and the American Legion League in Tyrone and Bald Eagle, and he was an avid baseball fan. He enjoyed attending all his grandchildren's sporting events and high school band functions. He was a gardening and farming devotee, having always tended big gardens. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sun., Sept. 13, and 10-11 a.m. Mon., Sept. 14, at Searer Funeral Home, Tyrone, where a funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday. Interment with flag presentation by the Tyrone Area Honor Guard will be at Baughman Cemetery.
