Alice (Jacobson) Vollmers was born February 11, 1915 on the farm her great Grandfather had homesteaded along Mud Lake west of Wheaton. She grew up in the Wheaton area and graduated from Wheaton High School in 1933. After attending Moorhead Teachers College and earning her Normal teaching degree in 1934, Alice taught school in Traverse County for seven years, of which five years were at District 49 southeast of Dumont.

On June 1, 1941, she married Alvin Vollmers and they had three children. Alice and Alvin farmed in Monson Township until their retirement in 1980 when they moved to Wheaton.

Alice was adventuresome throughout her live. She displayed this spirit through her traveling with her husband Alvin, her family, and her dear friend Mae Winter. In addition to numerous trips throughout the US, her international destinations included three trips to Sweden, and trips to Australia and New Zealand, the Holy Land, and Europe. She enjoyed meeting people and she was a gracious hostess who loved preparing and serving meals to entertain her family and friends.

Throughout her life, she was a teacher at heart. She taught Bible School at the Bethlehem Covenant Church and she also led and taught the youth program for the Traverse County Farmers Union. In addition, Alice worked on the Monson Township Charity drive, was a member of Bethlehem Covenant Church, Bethlehem Covenants Women, Farmers Union, the Swedish Institute, Lions Club, Wheaton Library Club, Homemakers Association, Minnesota Hearing Association, and the Democratic Party.

During the last 65 years of her life, she suffered from a severe hearing loss. However, her pioneering spirit was demonstrated as she studied lip reading and had a cochlear implant.

Alice passed away on August 3, 2009 at Park View Home in Woodville, Wisconsin.

Survivors include her three children, Carla (Paul) Kievit of Los Angles, Clyde (Kathy) Vollmers of Moscow, Russia, Vere (Ellen) Vollmers of Minneapolis, eight grandchildren, Todd (Carmen) Kievit, Amy (Ryan) Meltesen, Stacy Vollmers, Michael (Jennifer) Vollmers, Karl Vollmers (Megan Cassidy), Cindie (Jean-Noel) Kouame, Kevin (Danielle) Ost-Vollmers, Manda Vollmers, and twelve great-grandchildren, David, Rachel Nathan, Mary, Bennett, Nolaan, Quinn, Aaron, Andrew, Aubrey, Tyler and Rylee.

She was preceded in death by her husband Alvin, her parents Carl Jacobson and Clarissa Larson Jacobson, three sisters Lavera Mackner, Murial Jacobson, and Pearl Lewis, and one brother, Lawence Jacobson.
