Gertrude was born in 1913, but was not adopted until sometime between 1915-1919. Gertrude lived in the Lynbrook/ Rockville Centre area of Long Island and attended St. Marks Methodist Church. In 1934, Gertrude met and married Thomas Henry Fox. Thomas and Gertrude had only one child-Thomas Edward Fox- although they wanted more.
Thomas died unexpectedly in 1950 leaving young Thomas and Gertrude alone(buried in Greenfield Cemetery with the Burchells). In 1957, Gertrude met and married Henry John Ehlen, a quiet loving man who adored being a grandfather. Gertrude's only child gave her 7 grandchildren-who she loved very much. Henry died from cancer in 1973 leaving her alone once again. Gertrude worked various jobs, all of which she had to walk to because she didn't have a car. Gertrude continued to help her grandchildren as much as she could. She had a hard life, but she never complained. Gertrude passed away on August 16, 1979 from complications from surgery at South Nassau Communities Hospital (buried with 2nd husband in Long Island National).
