MOTHER

Jesus spread his arms and invited her in
A better person there has never been.

She was a great mother and a wonderful wife
Who lived by God’s word her entire life.

She raised her children with a firm but tender hand
And her love was warm as sun washed sand.

She enjoyed her cats and reading a good book
And my goodness how my Mama could cook.

Visits by family and friends was a favorite thing
A smile to her face these visits would bring.

Preparing a meal, to her was a treat
Seldom could you visit without being invited to eat.

She fed birds, squirrels and any stray cat
She was worried they were hungry even if they were fat.

Look into the sky on this Autumn night
There is a new star there shining bright.

This light is Mother in her eternal flight
To meet the Lord where everything is right.

Her husband, a son and granddaughter awaits
For her arrival at those pearly gates.

As she now sets in Heaven with family who has past
I feel she is saying, “ I am home at last.”
