DEATH OF MRS. KITTELL
Mrs. E. H. Kittell, wife of our county tax assessor, passed away at the family home near Cortez Friday morning after an illness of some months duration. The body accompanied by members of the family, was shipped on Saturday back to the old home in Nebraska for burial. The bereaved husband and family have the sincere sympathy of of a host of friends in every part of the county. (Mancos Times-Tribune, Friday, January 11, 1918, page 1, column 5.)

Death Occurs in Colorado, and Remains Buried Here. Word was received last Friday announcing the death of Mrs. E. H. Kittell at Cortez. Colorado, the telegram being received by Judge Smith, and asking him to make arrangements for the funeral, as the body would be shipped here for burial. The body arrived Tuesday noon, accompanied by Mr. Kittell and son, Arthur, and was taken to the home of Judge Smith, where on Wednesday afternoon short funeral services were conducted by Rev. E. M. Steen, pastor of the Presbyterian church and the remains were laid to rest in Evergreen cemetery. The funeral services were well attended, many of the old friends and neighbors coming from Rockville to pay their last sad respects to the departed. The I. O. O. F. and Rebeccah lodges attended in a body. Eva Callen was born in Bradford County, Pa., July 11, 1885 (sic-1859), and died at Cortez, Colorado, January 4, 1918. When seven years of age she united with the Baptist church. On July 11, 1889, she was united in marriage to Everett H. Kittell. Five children were born to this union, three of which died in infancy and two sons, Arthur and Jeff, who reside at Cortez, Colorado, both being married. Four sisters survive her, being Mrs. Charles Seeber of Boelus, Neb.; Mrs. Charles Kenyon of St. Paul, Neb.; Mrs. Hattie McPerrin of Omaha and Mrs. Eliza Lindsey of Casper, Wyo. and one brother, L. W. Callen of Kirby, Wyo. Mr. and Mrs. Kittell were old settlers in this county, having resided near Rockville many years and also at Loup City, when Mr. Kittell was county clerk of this county. They have many friends here who deeply synpathise (sic) with the sorrowing relatives. (The Sherman County Times - Jan 10 1918)
