DECATUR - James Woodrow Giles, 87, of Decatur, IL was called home on Sunday, September 7, 2009. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday (Sept. 11, 2009) at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Riverton, IL with Military Honors conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Casual attire is requested by the family. Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family via e-mail at www.dawson-wikoff.com. James was born November 17, 1921, son of Alcy and Fred Giles of Kentucky. James retired from International Union of Operating Engineers Local 965. James was a U.S. Army veteran who served in World War II. He received a purple heart, 5 bronze stars, one bronze service arrowhead WD GO, along with a good Conduct ribbon. James was a knowledgeable, hard working man who always provided for his family. He truly enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, and having coffee daily with his friends at McDonalds. He spent most of his spare time on woodworking projects, making small motor repairs, as well as collecting junk. Surviving are his children: Phyllis (Clarence "Golde") Golden, Pam McCoy, Ronnie Giles, Connie (Lewie) Harvey all of Decatur, IL, Rodger Giles of Texas and Brenda (Kevin) Robinson of Indiana; step-son: Mike (Gailen) Casey of Ramsey, IL; brothers and sisters: Gus Giles, Joan Ellis, Alice (Bill) Dixon all of Decatur, IL; Twenty-two grandchildren, thirty-two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews; special friends: George and Leah Moran He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, three brothers, two sisters, one grandson, and one great grandson.
