DEATH: W. T. Barcus is Dead
Walker T. Barcus died Tuesday night at his home 7 miles east of Neodesha of rupture of the bowels after an illness of only 24 hours. His sudden death was a great shock to his many friends for he was a deservedly popular man.
He was born in Athens county Ohio, in 1839, moved to Wisconsin in childhood and was married to Mrs. Emily Martin. They had two children, Eugene and Clarence who still live here. He has an army record of 4 years. He enlisted first in the 7th Wisconsin infantry in 1861m was wounded in 1862 and discharged from the Army. He reenlisted in 1863 in the heavy artillery service. In 1869 he moved to Iowa and then to Kansas in 1875 where he bought the farm he lived on until his death.
The funeral was held Tuesday from the home of the Rev. J. Kansas Morgan officiating. It was a very muddy day but the funeral was largely attended as became the popularity of them and there were 60 carriages in the procession. The interment was in the city cemetery.
