Mitchell F. Barcus to be Buried Here Saturday
Mitchell F. Barcus died of a heart attack August 6 at 7 pm at Hillcrest hospital, Skiatook, Oklahoma. He had been ill since March 13, 1950. Funeral service will be held Aug. 9 at Skiatook. Graveside services will be held the same day at the Neodesha cemetery at 2:30 pm. Burial will be in the Neodesha cemetery.
Mitchell F. Barcus was born November 29, 1895, near Neodesha to Eugene W. and Rosalie Gravelot Barcus. Both of his parents are deceased. He was married June 11, 1927 at Chanute to Miss Rhea Wakefield. He had lived in Kansas until 1950, when he moved to Skiatook, Okla.
He was a member of the Skiatook Christian church and had served as chairman of the church board. He was a past president of the Skiatook Rotary club and had served as secretary at various times since the organization of that club. He was a veteran of World War I. For 37 years he had worked for the Union Gas Company and was transferred to Skiatook Sperry plants I October of 1950. He was active in all church work. Her served on Skiatook Christmas decorating committee and was an ardent worker on any committee on which he served for the Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Barcus was a man of highest morals. The selection of a "Man of the month" list would be incomplete without the name of Mike Barcus.
Besides his parents, one sister, Mrs. Florence Hare, preceded him in death January 9,1939 and one brother Thomas O. Barcus died September 22, 1929.
Surviving is his wife, Mrs. Rhea Barcus of the home in Skiatook, three sisters. Miss Nora Barcus, Neodesha, Mrs. Hazel Shipley, Clarence, MO. and Mrs. Stella Jordan, Casper, Wyo.: three brothers, Eugene Walker Barcus, Philadelphia, Pa. Arthur Ray Barcus, Eden, Idaho, Albert Martin Barcus, Hammond, Ind; two daughters, Mrs. Beverly Hepner, Wichita and Mrs. Laura Beth Kelley, Overland Park, Kan. and five grandchildren.
