Judge C. Coldwell

Dies of Heart Disease -- An Interesting Life.

Judge Colbert Coldwell died Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock of heart disease at the residence of his son, N.C. Coldwell of this city.

About ten days ago Judge Coldwell arrived in Fresno from Winfield, Ks., his home. He was in poor health, having suffered during the winter with the grip, and came to Fresno to visit his son and recuperate.

The judge's life was an active one and he too, part in many stirring events. He was born in Tennessee seventy years ago. When quite young he joined the company of the famous scout, Kit Carson, and accompanied him upon many of his daring expeditions.

When the Mexican war broke out he was among the first to join the army and invade the enemy's country. He was on General Donovan's staff and held the rank of lieutenant. At the age of 27 he was made adjutant general of Arkansas, discharging the duties of this office with great ability.

Later he was elected district judge in Arkansas and occupied the same position in Texas. He was regarded as a lawyer of great learning and the strictest integrity, as well as a progressive and influential citizen.

His aged wife still lives in Winfield, Ks., and the body will be sent there for interment.
