Arlen D. Ayer, 74, of Jacksonville, FL passed away Saturday, October 13, 2007. Arlen was born May 27, 1933 in Concord, NH. He was a Christian, loving husband, father and grandfather "Papa Ayer".

Arlen was a Korean War Veteran, having served in the United States Army from 1951-1955. He was an active member of the Lake Shore United Methodist Church and was a successful businessman, working at Towers Hardware in Jacksonville, FL, Albany Hardware in Albany, GA and Best Western Lodge in Newbury, NH. Arlen enjoyed golf and watching his grandchildren play sports.

He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn; sons, Richard (Mary), Paul (Ginger) and Bryan; grandchildren, Clifford, Kathryn, Lauren and Michael and a special friend who was called son #4, Josh Perkins (Katy). He was pre-deceased by his parents, Clifford and Bernice Ayer and one brother, Loren W. Ayer.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at Lake Shore United Methodist Church with Reverend Thomas Fuller officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lake Shore United Methodist Church, 2246 Blanding Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32210. Cremation arrangements are under the care of Broadus-Raines Funeral Home, 501 Spring St., Green Cove Springs, FL.
