son of Claude and Elva Mauk McAvoy. A Sheffield resident most of his life, he was employed as a machinist by GTE Sylvania, retiring in 1983. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army as a corporal and was a charter member of the Sheffield Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by his wife, Ann Lucia McAvoy, whom he married Nov. 17, 1951, in Warren; two sons: Mark and Michael McAvoy, both of Warren; a daughter, Molly Pasquarette of Phoenix; 11 grandchildren; three sisters: Evelyn Helm of Selena, Kan., and Winona Farr and Romola O'Leary, both of Sheffield. He was preceded in death by a sister, Joanne L. Steffan.
