He divorced Olive Lee Brown and married Helen Mary Riggins on November 4, 1938 in San Bernardino, California. They had two daughters, Mary Anne and Margaret Kay. Ernest died on June 14, 1995 in Jacksonville, Oregon wher he is buried in the Masonic Cemetery at Grants Pass, Oregon.
