"Matrimonial—The marriage of Mr. J. M. Connor and Miss Mary V. Walsh took place at the residence of the bride’s parents in this town last Monday morning, Rev. Father Leahy tying the nuptial knot. Only a few friends of the high contracting parties were present. The bridesmaids were Miss Alicia Leach and Miss Aggie Walsh, sister of the bride; the groomsmen were Mr. John Connor of Auburn and Mr. James Walsh, Jr., the bride’s brother. A choice collation was afterwards spread for the delectation of the company, after which the happy couple departed on the local train for a honeymoon trip to Monterey. The bridegroom is well known to the traveling public as one of the steadiest and most thorough railroad men in the employ of the C.P.R.R. and a gentleman who enjoys the esteem of all who know him. The bride is an accomplished and prepossession young lady who has taught the public school at New England Mills for several years past with marked success, and her popularity was so great that there is no doubt she might have continued to teach there indefinitely had she not decided to exchange her state of spinsterhood for one of double blessedness. We wish the happy couple long life and prosperity." [Placer Argus, Auburn, Saturday, 8-27-1881]
