Gerta Koerber West was born Aug. 26, 1894 in Maries County, Missouri the daughter and only child of Louis Barney Koerber and Susan Hancks. Granddaughter of Ernest Ludwig Korber from Saxony/Germany. She was the wife of Joseph C. West and mother to Louis, Lela and Virgil West. She lived in the Paydown area of Maries County, Missouri the majority of her life. Gertie had beautiful red hair and a sweet, kind voice that was never raised in anger. She was loved by everyone who's lives she touched. Gertie and her husband, Joe were often seen sitting on their front porch and waving to all the cars that passed by their home. She died on July 1, 1980 in Vienna, Maries, MO and is missed by all.
