Katheryn Lena Fambrough was born January 11, 1918, in Loop, Texas to Philip and Nancy Preston. She passed from this life on September 4, 2009, after a long illness.
As a child, Katheryn lived in Texas, California, and New Mexico. On July 25, 1933, Katheryn married Harvey Fambrough, a rancher from Ancho, New Mexico. They had four children , Preston, Harvey Ray, Lois, and Janel.
She was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. Katheryn was a devoted Christian, and as long as her health permitted she was a teacher and leader in church. Although unable to attend, she was a member of the Portales First Baptist Church.
Katheryn worked at Holloman Air Force Base in the 50's and 60's, retiring in 1969. It was an exciting time in 'space' history and she enjoyed sharing her interesting and unusual stories.
After many years in Artesia, Tularosa, and Alamogordo, Harvey and Katheryn moved to Hagerman in 1979, and once again enjoyed the "country life."
Shortly after celebrating 65 years of marriage, Harvey passed away in September 1998. Katheryn then moved to Portales to be near her daughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harvey; a son, Preston Lee; three brothers, Duane Beal, Andrew Beal, and Jerry Fambrough; a grandson, Dale Wayne Herring, and a son-in-law, Jim Hill.
Katheryn is survived by three children, Harvey Ray and Lois (Jim) Herring of Artesia, and Janel Hill of Portales, and a sister, Alexa Sue (Travis) Hooser of Alamogordo. Also surviving Katheryn are seven grandchildren, Teresa (John) Fields of Louisa, Kentucky, Angela (Peter) Robinson of Woodinville, Washington, Sam Fambrough and Carol (Allen) Berry of Alamogordo, New Mexico, Jimmy (Pam) Herring of Artesia, New Mexico, John W.
