Joel married Laura B. HAYS in Feb., 1866 in Benton Co., AR. Cavness children: Robert Lee, Amos Jarmore, Rosa Bell born 22 Mar 1879, Henry Clay, Berthie, Reagon C. born 07 Dec 1888 and died 25Jun1982 in Joplin, Jasper Co., MO. Reagon married Grace M. FLOWERS 02Oct1926 in Wellington, Sumner Co., KS. Grace M. FLOWEERS Cavness was born 11 Jan 1908. And last, child: Jasper Joel Cavness born Feb 1891 Pea Ridge, Benton Co., AR.

CAVNESS, Joel Jasper- Joel J. Cavness, one of the best known and most highly respected citizens of Bentonville and northeast Benton County, died at the family home here at 7 o'clock Sunday morning, January 2nd, 1927 following a long illness, aged 77 years, five months and 11 days. Joel Jasper Cavness was born on Pea Ridge, Benton County, Arkansas on July 22nd, 1849, his parents among the early pioneers of this section who came here in wagon trains from Tennessee. In February 1866 he was married to Miss Laura Hays whose family was also among the early pioneers. To them were born 13 children, only three of whom survive. Mr. Cavness was converted at the age of 24 years, joining the Baptist Church, and always remaining faithful to that denomination and to his professions of Christianity. He was always a cheerful and likable disposition and even during the prolonged suffering of his last illness never complained and was always optimistic. Besides his wife he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. E.D. Bogle of Bentonville and two sons, Henry Cavness of Bentonville and R.C. Cavness of Wichita, Kansas. He also leaves one sister whose home is at Mapleton, Kansas and eight grandchildren. Mr. Cavness had lived at Pea Ridge practically all his life, rearing his family there. He and his wife moved to Bentonville seven years ago to be nearer their children living here. Funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Bentonville Baptist Church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. J.D. Allen, and interment made in the Bentonville Cemetery.

Joel Cavness died at his home in Bentonville Sunday, January 2nd at the age of 77 years. Death was due to a complication of diseases from which he has been afflicted for the past year. He has been very low on several occasions the past two months but had rallied each time. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Laura Cavness, two sons, Henry Cavness of this city and R.C. Cavness of Wichita, Kansas; also by one daughter, Mrs. E.D. Bogle of Bentonville. The funeral, which was held Monday afternoon from the First Baptist Church, was largely attended and Rev. J.D. Allen, his pastor, preached the sermon. Interment was made in the City Cemetery. Joel Jasper Cavness was born on the farm homesteaded by his father, Matthew Cavness, on Pea Ridge on July 22, 1849 where he had lived practically all his life until about seven years ago when he gave up farming and moved to Bentonville. He was married in 1866 when 17 years of age to Laura Hays, daughter of another pioneer family of Pea Ridge. Mr. Cavness was highly esteemed by all who knew him and those who knew him best testify to his high character as a citizen and a man.
