Chapter Three:
Samuel Biggart Anderson Family

Samuel Anderson was born in Trumbull Co., OH., the first child of Robert and Betsy (Biggart) Anderson. At the age of four, he came with his family to Porter Co., IN., and spent the remainder of his years near the Anderson homestead just north of Marshall Grove in Pleasant Twp. In 1875, he married Eliza Spencer (at times called "Mary" by some family members). Eliza lived her final years in an institution in Logansport, IN., dying in Jan. 1916. Just over four months later, Samuel died.

The biography of Samuel Anderson is included in the "History of Porter County" (p. 637), noting that two of his daughters became teachers, while the third died at age 20. His parents had been charter members of the Tassinong Presbyterian Church, and Samuel joined others in the family in becoming active in the new Presbyterian Church at Kouts. One niece remembers that he gave the church their first communion glasses.
