Bill was the oldest son of Claude and Anna (Donahue) Ableman of Spokane WA. He married (Elma) Isabell Fairbanks and had four children. Their three sons Max, Jack, Jim and one daughter Carolyn all raised in the Seattle area. He was a cement finisher and part of the crew who built the Grand Coulee Damn, the largest concrete structure in the United States and one of the nine largest concrete structures in the world. An active member of the Eagles, enjoyed boxing, football, Jazz and polka music. He retired in 1982 and lived the last part of his life on his property, above the Green River Gorge in the beautiful rural area of Black Daimond WA.
