Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in this city last Friday, November 24, for Orace Winfield (Rusty) Scott, 55, whose death occurred in a veterans hospital at Danville, Il. on the preceeding Tuesday. He had been a patient there for a good many years.
The deceased was born July 31, 1895 at Petersburg, Ind., the eldest son of Elwood and Florence Scott, but was largely reared in this city, where he spent most of his adult life as well. On December 31, 1924, he was married to Miss Faye Chitwood, who survives, also one daughter, Mrs. Margaret Elwood Gallagher, of Denver, Colo., survives him.
Mr. Scott saw service in World War I and after his return home he served in public and political life for several years, was a member of the Caruthersville police force under his father, who was police chief for 15 years; later also a constable in 1928 as police chief; also a deputy sheriff. He resigned the office of chief of police (or city marshal) when his health failed. In 1932, with members of his family, he joined the Methodist church in Arcola, Mississippi.
In addition to his former wife, and his daughter, he is survived by two brothers, Fred Scott of Flint, Michigan and Leon of this city and by two sisters, Mrs. Jean Walker of this city and Mrs. Juanita Grafton of Memphis.
The Rev. Floyd V. Brower conducted the funeral service and interment was in Little Prairie Cemetery with LaForge in charge.
