Norman Richard Michels, 88, of North Zulch died Aug. 16 in North Zulch. Funeral services were held Aug. 18 at the Willowhole Chapel in North Zulch. Rev. Don Semonski officiated. Burial was in Willowhole Cemetery. Michels was born March 11, 1916 in Camp Point, Ill. to Elmer and Pearl Omer Michels. He had been a resident of Madison County since 1958 and farmer. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church. Michels served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II in the Alluetin Islands on the Island of Attu and also in Italy. He loved gardening, he raised some of the best tomatoes in the area and he also enjoyed working in his shop building small items. His parents; his wife, Mary Ruby Michels; three brothers; and a sister preceded him in death. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Nell Michels of North Zulch; daughter Shirley Michels of College Station; sister, Betty Chloe Wiggs of Grand Prairie; five grandchildren, Greg Michels, Serena Resendez, John Wilson, David Wilson and Lisa Flores; and six great-grandchildren, Kimberly, Jessica, Erin, Miranda, Crystal and Amanda. Pallbearers were Greg Michels, Darrell Michels, Larry Michels, Roger Baylor, Jim Whitley and Kim Resendez. Madisonville Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
