Paul K. "Red" Phillips, 80, of Holmesville, died Saturday afternoon, Dec. 27, 2008, at Sycamore Run Nursing Home, Millersburg, after an extended illness.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, with pastor Robert Stull officiating.

Burial will be at Prairie Township Cemetery, Holmesville.

Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Greater Wayne County.

Paul was born March 5, 1928, in Killbuck and was the son of Joseph and Bernice (McKee) Phillips. On Oct. 9, 1947, he married Virginia Miller and she survives.

He retired from Freeman Construction as a mechanic/operating engineer after 30 years.

Paul enjoyed spending his winter at his home in Hudson, Fla.

He was one of the founders of the Killbuck Valley Sportsman Club, a life member of Holmes Conservation Club and a member of Holmesville (Prairie Twp.) Fire Department.

Surviving in addition to his wife are children, Dennis (Sheila) Phillips of Millersburg, Stephen (Dana) Phillips of Holmesville and Keith (Judy) Phillips of Apple Creek; grandchildren, Cathy Strouse, Rick Crummel, Lisa (John) Hochstetler, Dallas Steele, Matt (Amber) Phillips and Melissa (Nathan) Elkins; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Strouse, Chad Strouse, Connor Kaser, Codey Hershberger, Brien Hochstetler, Kara Hochstetler, Barry Phillips, Grace Bowen, Joy Phillips and Taylor Elkins; and brothers, Jerry (Carol) Phillips of Millersburg, Delmar Dean (Betty) Phillips of Massillon and Bobby Joe (Anna) Phillips of California.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Eugene, and a grandson, Brian.

Paul's life passion was his family and spending many years as an avid Lake Erie fisherman
