She was born May 22, 1923, in Auburn, the daughter of Alva R and Flossie A Alderman Sheppard. She was preceded in death by a sister, Lorraine Wheeler and former husband John W Charles.
Mrs. Charles was a self-employed beautician for more than 30 years. She was a cook at Parks Memorial Convalescent Center in Auburn, retiring in 1989.
Surviving are a son, Mark of Auburn: a daughter Helen Charles of Auburn: two grandchildren: two great-great grandchildren: and three brothers, Alva R Sheppard of Springfield, Frank R Sheppard of Auburn and John Sheppard of Gwinn, Mich.
Memorial services will be a 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Berry Funeral Home, Auburn, with the Rev. Harry Deffley officiating. Interment will be in Virden Cemetery.
