Mr. Shirley D. Kimbrell, 87, died Monday morning (May 23, 2016) at St. Vincent's Medical Center Riverside in Jacksonville, FL after a short illness.

He was a native of Pierce County, but he lived most of his life in Waycross. A U. S. Navy World War II Veteran, Mr. Kimbrell retired from Georgia Natural Gas as a supervisor after 28 years. He was a member of Second Baptist Church and the Ware County Exchange Club.

He is preceded in death by his father, Jim Kimbrell; step-mother, Wilma Kimbrell; one sister, Katherine Middleton; and three brothers, Theron, Don and Thomas Kimbrell.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Steedley Kimbrell of Waycross; step-daughter, Debbie Hanchey (Jerome) of Hoboken; step-son, Tim Steedley of Waycross; six step-grandchildren, Whitney Steedley, Andrew Steedley, Emily Steedley, Brad Fulford (Nicole) and Brian Fulford (Keri); six step-great grandchildren; and one step-great great granddaughter.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday (May 26, 2016) at Second Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.
