RAINSFORD FAMILY PLOT: This large family plot occupies the north end of Fairlawn Cemetery. It is based around the family of the Rev. William Stephen Rainsford and his wife Emily. Mr. Rainsford, rector of St. George's Church in Manhattan for many years, had a mansion in South Salem, N.Y., literally on the Ridgefield border, that was given to him by J. Pierrepont Morgan, a parishioner. For nearly 40 years, the estate has been Le Chateau restaurant. In foreground, left, are William Stephen Rainsford, and his wife Emily Alma Rainsford, with footstones in front of each. In back, amid the pachysandra, from left, Alice Maud Perry; Laurence Frederic Rainsford; Helen Morgan Rainsford, wife of Laurence F. Rainsford; then two low stones: Laurence K. Rainsford and his wife, Lydia Crowell Rainsford; and Lt. Mark Rainsford, who died in a plane crash during World War II. (February 2012)
