Solomon enlisted to serve in the Civil War Co. D 23rd Reg Ill inf. on 1 Mar 1862 and then enlisted again on 1 May 1864 to serve in Co B, 23rd Illinois Infantry (consolidated). He was discharged on 5 May 1865. Solomon had been shot in the kidney and lost the kidney as a result of the injury. He was a carpenter and a farmer. He married Nancy Delight Orvis. Children were Monnie, Benjamin F and another daughter and 3 sons. His cause of death was obstuction of the bile duct and gallstones. Solomon & Nancy along with Monnie and Benjamin came to Marion Township in 1888. He was a member of Carl Bonham Post #92, GAR, Marion, Michigan.
