Norman E. "Gene" Eadens, 74, of Columbus, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Gene was born Oct. 20, 1934, in Indianapolis, to the late Norman E. and Daisy (Guffy) Eadens.

He retired in 1990 from General Motors. He was a member of Park­side Baptist Church in Columbus and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He enjoyed woodworking.

Gene was the best husband, father, grandpa and brother anyone could ever imagine. Everyone who knew him loved him.

He married Shirley Fox on May 2, 1954, and she survives. Also surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Cindy Eadens; a daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Don O'Neil; a sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Howard Billeisen; and three granddaughters, Taryn O'Neil, Leslie Eadens and Melissa Linder.

Family will receive friends from noon Saturday until service time at 1 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens and Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135 in Greenwood.
