Archibald Alexander McKinley Keefer was born in Horse Valley, Pennsylvania, the son of Steven Abraham Keefer and Alice Rebecca Roxroth buried in Pennsylvania. ~Obit~Funeral services for Archibald A. Keefer of near Coggon will be at 2 P.M. Saturday, March 18 at the Methodist Church in Troy Mills. The Rev. Charles Moore will officiate and burial will be in the Troy Mills cemetery.
The body will be taken from the Harris Funeral Home in Quasqueton to Keefer home near Troy Mills on Friday afternoon. Mr. Keefer died at 12 o'clock noon on Wednesday, March 15. He was born July 2, 1906, the son of Steven A. and Alice R. Rexroth Keefer at Horse Valley, Pa. In 1927 he moved to the Troy Mills area and since that time he has engaged in faming. He married Maxine Bragaw at Rock Island, Illinois on May 31, 1934. He is suvived by his wife; three daughters, Mrs. John (Luetta) Benton and Mrs. James Moore both of Walker; Linda Maria at home; one son, Lelan, at home. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Lloyd Henry, Greensburg, Pennsylvania; four brothers, William Keefer of Fayettsville, Pennsylvania; Martin and Charles Keefer of Chamberburg, Pennsylvania; Clarence Keefer of Shippenburg, Pennsylvania; two grandchildren; eight neices and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sons and two brothers. Pallbearers will be Leo Lala, Charles McCright, Paul Baty, Carl Walton, Walter Rowe and Carleton Dudley.

His mother's maiden name was Ehrhart, not Rexroth. For some reason, one of her children's records gives her middle name as Rexroth instead of Rebecca, which is probably the cause of the confusion about her name. Her death certificate, available on ancestry.com, verifies her name.

I am curious about Archie's nickname (McKinley). Archie had an older brother named William McKinley Keefer, so I find it odd that Archie's nickname would be McKinley. William is listed as McKinley on a census.
