Walter Franklin's Sorrells father was John A. Sorrells and his mother was Priscilla DeBord. John and Priscilla were married Jan 14, 1818 in Rutherford Co., NC. John A. & Priscilla had 9 children with Walter Franklin being the last born. Very early in 1800 John A. and Priscilla migrated up from Rutherford Co. and raised their family in Buncombe Co., the old Gashes Creek area. John A. Sorrells was born about 1797 in Rutherford Co. and died 1836 in Buncombe Co. Priscilla DeBord Sorrells was born about 1800 in North Carolina and died July 5, 1862 in Buncombe Co.
He wrote this and left it for his wife before he left for the war.

I leave my native home, (with a aking heart,) to my country's call, I will see on earth not more,
If in the battle I shall fall,If it is my fortune in the Battlefield to shed my blood, I hope my name will blossom like the willow buds.
I leave my native home, And my bosom friend most dear, With all my children dear I fear I'll meet no more. But blessed be the Lord, That reigns above the skies, He has promised all shall meet, who obeys His law.

But my poor mother dear, She has now gone to rest, She is not left behind to see my sad distrust. My sisters two are not here, To bid me good bye. If they obey the Lord, we will live above the skies.

So now my friends goodbye, I have no more to say, But let us live prepared so well, that we may meet a judgement day.

Walter was a simple man, full of love and poetry for his family.

March 11, 1863, Jackson Sorrels and F.M. Wilson were bonded to administer to W.F. Sorrells estate.
