A son of Eva (Phillips) and George Esom Bartley, his mother died some time after September 12, 1918 (the date of George's WWI draft registration) and April 8, 1930 (the date the family was recorded in the 1930 Federal Census for West Union, Parke County, Indiana). The family was recorded as George E, age 46, head; Albert, age 20, son; Helen, age 18, daughter; Thelma, age 16, daughter; Stella, age 14, daughter; Marion, age 12, son; Willard, age 11, son; Leslie, age 9, son; and Andrew, age 3, son. Albert was the oldest child listed in the 1920 census and Leslie was not yet born as it was taken January 28, 1920.

Leslie Bartley, 74, of Danville died August 29, 1994 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was married to Mary Huegel Bartley who survives him in death. He was a core rod caster at Bridgeport Brass in Indianapolis from 1949 to 1981. He was a member of New Maysville Baptist Church and was a World War II US Army veteran. Survivors include his wife; a son, David E. Bartley of Danville; two daughters, Phyllis Salter and Linda Briggs, both of Port St. Lucie, Florida; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were conducted September 1 at Weaver Home in Danville. Burial was at Lizton K of P Cemetery.


Son Donald Ray Bartley preceded him in death. He was killed in action in Vietnam in 1969.
