Calvin Ruttman, 84 year-old Woodward resident, died Tuesday, August 25, 2009, at Grace Living Center in Woodward following a short illness. Funeral services will be held August 29, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Woodward with the Reverend Monica Hall officiating. Interment will be at the Mooreland Cemetery.

Calvin Douglas Ruttman was born June 6, 1925, northwest of Mooreland, Oklahoma, to John Martin Ruttman, Jr. and Edna Mae Miller Ruttman. He grew up on the family farm/ranch northwest of Mooreland.

Calvin graduated from Mooreland High School in 1942. After graduation he served in the Army of occupation forces in Japan. Upon being honorably discharged he returned to Woodward County and was employed by Phil Ferguson where he worked many years as the ranch foreman. Calvin was the third generation to farm and ranch land settled by his family in the Oklahoma Land Rush of Woodward and Harper Counties. Calvin spent his life ranching in Woodward County and enjoyed his chosen work and lifestyle. He was known as a cattleman who took care of his stock and raised high quality cattle.

Calvin was married on August 30, 1953 to Mona Maxine Markham in Caldwell, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law, Beryle Clinton Elwood and sister-in-law, Bonnie Marie Smith Ruttman.

Survivors include his wife, Mona of the home; brothers Kenneth Martin Ruttman and wife Marcella of Mooreland; John Alden Ruttman and wife Myrtle of Mooreland; and Lloyd Jewell Ruttman and wife Gloria of Overland Park, Kansas, and sister, Louise Marie Ruttman Elwood of Moore. Also, Calvin is survived by his brothers-in-law Roy Irons of Wichita, Kansas, and Raymond Leon Markham and wife Ernestine of McKinney, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Woodward or to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation Cancer Research with Billings Funeral Home accepting contributions.
