Tonasket
Jessie Ema Leese Zabreznik, 87, an Aeneas Valley pioneer, who lived in Tonasket for the past 17 years, passed away Saturday, April 10, 1999 at the North Valley Hospital after a brief illness. Jessie was born Jan. 13, 1912 to Ranger and Ema Leese at Wauconda. Her early years were spent with her parents and family on homesteads in Wauconda and Aeneas Valley. She and her sisters rode horseback or walked approximately five miles to attend the Aeneas School from which she graduated. She married Louis L. Zabreznik in 1932 at Omak. They lived on their Aeneas Valley cattle ranch until 1946 when they sold the property and moved to Disautel so that their children could complete their schooling. Then in 1951, they repurchased the Aeneas property and lived there until retiring in 1982. Subsequently they moved to Tonasket. Jessie was an avid traveler. She visited many areas in the US, Canada and overseas. Gardening and sewing were other favorite hobbies up until her death. She was also a "killer" card player. People in the Tonasket area will long remember her elaborate outdoor Christmas lighting displays at her home on County Shop Road. In retirement, she was a longtime social services counselor and North Valley Nursing Home volunteer. Also, she was an active member of Tonasket's senior community and Senior Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis, in 1987 and daughter, Sylvia Stone, in 1995 and an infant grandson in 1957. Memorial services will be held at the Tonasket Senior Center at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 16, 1999. For those friends who wish, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jesse's name to the Tonasket Senior Center. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. Bergh Funeral Service of Tonasket is in charge of arrangements.
