W.W.Goff Died -
W.W. Goff, age 77 years, a lifelong resident of Wade, died at his home on Monday, February 5, 1940, at 10:10 pm. The funeral was held the following day, February 6, at 2:00 pm at the Johnson Cemetery, services being conducted by Rev. W.A. Murry, Methodist pastor from St. Elmo, Ala., and Rev. A.V. Faggard, pastor of the Wade Baptist Church.
The following, all grandsons, were the pallbearers, Dennis and Lloyd Cumbest, Arnie and Lester Waltman, Darnell Goff and L.C. Faggard.
Deceased is survived by three daughters, Mrs. L.C. [Bub] Faggard and Mrs. Eli Cumbest of Wade; and Mrs. Mack E. Cumbest of Kreole; four sons, Tollie, Carlie, Joe and Quincy Goff, all of Wade. Also surviving are two brothers, Will Goff of Wade and Lyman Goff of Pascagoula; 27 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Goff, most affectionally know as 'Uncle Wess,' was born and spent his entire life in the vicinity of where he died. His declining years were spent in an atmosphere of peace, joy and contentment. His love for his family and fellowmen were superb. His was a character that ever beheld the brighter side of life, finding fault and criticism for none.
A useful life of three score and ten years well spent, he leaves a sweet memory to his family, relatives and numberless friends.
