Alta "Dessie" Dines, 94, of Appleton City, Missouri, departed this life on Sunday, August 30, 2009, at Heartland of Willow Lane Nursing Home in Butler, Missouri. Dessie was born April 4, 1915, at Stumptown, Missouri, to Johnathan Corneilius and Goldie Leona (Allen) Miller. Dessie grew up in Bates, Henry, and St. Clair counties.

January 1, 1937, Dessie married Cecil Theodore Dines who passed away in 1985. To this union eight children were born. Dessie was a faithful wife, a loving and nurturing mother. Her love and pride in her family never faltered. Dessie accepted Christ as her savior, at an early age, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Appleton City. Dessie had been employed at the sewing factory in earlier years. Dessie wrote many wonderful poems, enjoyed by many. She was quick to tell you that this was a "God given talent."

Dessie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ted; brothers Art Allen and Jack Miller; sisters Katherine McClure and Joye Haley; and grandson Gary Wayne Dines. Dessie is survived by her children: Bettie Sue Dines, Bill Dines, Jerry Dines, and wife Debbie, Sally McSlarrow and husband Dan, Linda Roush and husband Charlie, Mike Dines, Andy Dines, Tommy Dines and wife Kathy, 25 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren; sister Georgie Mae McClure and brother Clifford Miller; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
