HELEN G. LEHMANN

Helen Gertrude (Entz) Lehmann was born July 16, 1905 on the farm of her parents, John and Justine (Claassen) Entz and died on May 22, 2005 at the Methodist Home of Enid. She had four brothers, John, Henry, G.B. and Hermann and five sisters, Marie, Anna, Justine, Ella & Ester. As a child she attended the Bethel Mennonite Church, located Southeast of Hydro, OK, for which her father donated the land. She went to the Mound School District 150 through the eighth grade, which was located north of Crown Mountain.

Helen & her parents traveled to Geary, OK to attend the First Mennonite Church and on May 22, 1921 she was baptized in the first Mennonite Church in Geary, Oklahoma and remained an active member of the church until it's closing in 1996. She was very involved in the Ladies Aid and served as secretary of the church board.

In 1926 Helen moved to McAllen, Texas and attended the Valley Business College. She worked for her board and room for an insurance agency and a lawyer in McAllen, Texas.

Upon returning to Oklahoma in 1928 Helen worked at several different places including the First National Bank of Hydro, Oklahoma.


On October 30, 1932 Helen was married to Herman R Lehmann in a ceremony at the farm North of Geary. They lived in a two-room house, which Herman had built for them. In 1950 they added onto the house making it a six-room house with a basement. They continued to farm until 1964 upon the death of Herman.

In 1966 she moved from the farm into Geary and kept active working for the Blaine County Election Board and collecting for the American Red Cross. She worked in the Mennonite Etc. Shop in Weatherford, Oklahoma and was on the Board of Directors for the Geary Nursing Home.

In 1996, as her eyesight started to fail, Helen moved to the Sterling House Assisted Living in Enid, Oklahoma to be closer to her son, and in December of 2003 became a resident of the Methodist Home of Enid where she remained until her death.

Helen is survived by her son, John W. and his wife, Celia Ann of Enid, OK, granddaughter, Katherine Lehmann, grandson, Michael Lehmann of Oklahoma City, one sister, Ester Terveen of Hattiesburg, MI & her sister-in-law, Anita Lehmann of Buena Park, CA. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews and their children.

Services will be held Friday, May 27, 2005 at the First United Methodist Church of Geary, OK at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Robert DeMoss officiating. Burial will be in the Geary Cemetery, Geary, OK.

Memorials may be made to the Methodist Home of Enid or the Mennonite Relief Fund through the funeral home.
